Grant Activity

Conduct research in grantee's area of specialization, teach, conduct seminars and workshops in undergraduate or graduate programs. Teaching/research grantees are generally expected to conduct seminars, give public lectures and advise on university curriculum and administration, based on the needs of the host institution.

Grants can begin as early as June 2021.  Grants must be completed by September 2022.

The academic year is from August/September through May/June in the Highland Region and from March/April through January/February in the Coastal Region.

Any accredited institution in Ecuador.

Flex Description

The Flex Award is designed for scholars who require multiple visits to the host country. This option allows grants to be conducted over short segments, preferably during the fall and/or spring semesters. Interested applicants should clearly indicate plans for Flex in their project statement, including a project timeline. Flex grantees may be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host-country academic community. Flex grant parameters:

  • Short-term Flex grants for research only for two, two-month segments over consecutive academic years are available during the summer and fall and/or spring semesters.
  • Flex grants cannot exceed four months in total, and must be completed by September 2021.
  • Final approval of Flex grants will be contingent upon available funding, and concurrence with host institution.
