Grant Activity

Teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and consult on curriculum development. Conduct research in area of specialization. For Flex grants, see Flex Option box.

Scholars selected for this grant will be required to attend a mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation in Summer 2021.

Grant Length
Four to nine months. For Flex grants, see Flex Option box.
Grant Dates

One-semester grants must begin in September 2021 or February 2022; two-semester grants must begin in September 2021.

Any appropriate institution. Affiliation to be determined by the U.S. Embassy in Skopje, but applicants may indicate preference. Potential host universities include:

Flex Option
Flex Description

The Flex Award is designed for scholars who require multiple visits to the host country. This option allows grants to be conducted over short segments, preferably during the fall and/or spring semesters. Interested applicants should clearly indicate plans for Flex in their project statement, including a project timeline. Flex grantees may be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host-country academic community.

Flex grant parameters:

• Minimum length of the total grant is four months and the maximum is six months;

• Minimum length for any grant segment is one month and the maximum is three months;

• Two or three grant segments may be spread over one or two consecutive years; and

• Flex awards are offered for teaching, teaching/research and research grants.

Areas of Interest

While this award is open to any project in the disciplines listed above, there is interest in scholars who are in these particular specialty areas.

North Macedonia is interested in a wide range of institution-building fields, although specific requests have been made for the following specializations: business development, quality assurance management and standardization and education and research development. However, applications from all disciplines are welcome.
