Award Details
Grant Activity

Teach undergraduate and, if offered, graduate courses in area of specialization. Assist with curriculum development, supervise undergraduate and graduate students. Collaborate with faculty on research and conduct research in area of specialization. Grantees should plan on a 50:50 ratio of time spent on teaching to research. This can be adjusted depending on the needs of the host institution.  

Work on a specific project tha benefits the host institution and scholar/profesisonal.

Areas of Interest

While this award is open to any project in the disciplines listed above, there is interest in scholars who are in these particular specialty areas.

Makerere University: Applications are encouraged for undergraduate and graduate level teaching in the following areas: American literature and literary theory, Journalism, Mass Communications, Film, Humanities, Performing Arts, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Medical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Pharmacy, Environment and Natural Resources, Engineering and Applied Sciences,Business, Education, Health Sciences, Information Sciences and Law.

Uganda Martyrs University: All disciplines are sought, but applications are encouraged in Architecture, Migration Studies, Financial Mathematics and Statistics, International Finance, Management Information Systems, Health Sciences and Research Methodology, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Medical equipment repair engineering and Motor Vehicle Mechanical Engineering.

Uganda Christian University: All disciplines are sought; however applications are encouraged in Science, technology, engineering, Mathematics related disciplines; Develop curriculum and research colloquia for doctoral students.  Child development theories and processes, writing for children and Child-focused research. 

Islamic University in Uganda: All disciplines.  Applications are encouraged in Development Studies, Management, Nursing, Counseling Psychology, Social Work and Public Administration.

Mbarara University of Science and Technology: All disciplines are sought, but applications are especially encouraged in the following areas: Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Human Anatomy, Medical Laboratory Sciences/Technology, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Big Data and Industrial Simulation, Surgery, Communication Skills, Business Administration, Accounting, Management Sciences and Clinical Pharmacy.

Muni University:  All disciplines. Applications are encouraged in Pre-clinical Sciences (Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology), Basic Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics), Computer Science, Education (Foundations of Education, Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Media Studies).

Soroti University:  All disciplines:  Applications are encouraged in Medicine, Pharmacology and Nursing.

Kyambogo University:  All disciplines

University of Kisubi:  All disciplines


Special Features

Makerere University:  Makerere University is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates.

Uganda Martyrs University:  Provides a holistic education for its students which is also skills-based.  The university provides housing for scholars. 

Uganda Christian University: An institution that stands  for christian values and hard work. University provides housing for scholars.

Islamic Univerisity in Uganda: The main objective of the university is to serve the higher education needs of the English-speaking Muslim community in southern and eastern Africa.

Mbarara University: Mbarara University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Mbarara. It was founded to address the shortage of scientists and to instill a sense of community service in its students. The university offers housing to visiting scholars.

Soroti University:  A new public university which opened its doors to students this year.  They are concious of wanting to start out right and avoid making mistakes other institutions have passed through by learning from the advice and skills of experienced academics.

Kyambogo University:  One Uganda’s largest public Universitie established in 2003 from merger of the former Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo (UPK), the Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK), and the Uganda National Institute of Special Education (UNISE).
