Grant Activity

Conduct teaching or teaching/research, including lectures, seminars and/or workshops, in any area of the Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, or Pure and Applied Sciences (STEM). Collaborate with colleagues at Greek universities, museums and other cultural organizations and research centers. All projects must contain a lecturing component; research only projects will not be considered. The teaching component normally requires grantees to cover one to two courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

Grant Length

Fall term: Three months; Spring term: three to four months

Grant Dates

Grants must begin in either October 2021 (three months) or February 2022 (three to four months).

Invitation Requirement

A letter of invitation is preferred

Language Proficiency Requirements

None, English is sufficient. However, feasibility of conducting the project must be demonstrated in the project statement

Additional Language Requirement

All teaching will be in English; additional language proficiency is not required. English is sufficient for teaching/lecturing; however, knowledge of Greek is useful.

For independent research projects, Greek language proficiency sufficient to complete the research project is required. Feasibility of conducting research must be demonstrated in the project statement.

Applicant Profile

Additional Qualification Information

Applicants must have at least three years of relevant experience. Applicants outside of academia must have some teaching experience.

Proposals from U.S. higher education administrators are welcome and should have a focus on:

assessing and recommending strategies for the improvement of student services on Greek campuses and/or
the further internationalization of local universities by forming partnerships with their U.S. counterparts.

U.S. administrators will have opportunities to work closely with the Rectors, International Affairs and Career offices of Greek universities, and with the Ministry of Education and the Greek Scholarship Foundation (Erasmus+ program).

In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities‎.

Stipend & Benefits

Stipend

Up to $2,100 - $2,500 (US Dollars) per month, depending on number of accompanying dependents.

Estimated Travel and Relocation Allowance

Round-trip airfare for grantee and one accompanying dependent, one-time settling-in allowance of $1,200 (US Dollars) and excess luggage allowance up to $200 (US Dollars) for grantee only.

Estimated Book and Research Allowance

Up to $350 (US Dollars) for books and research materials.

Dependent Tuition Allowance

Up to $3,000 (US Dollars) per family for dependents in elementary or secondary school.

Special Award Benefits

For grantee only, up to $450 (US Dollars) for Greek language lessons.

Final grant amounts will be determined prior to the start of the academic year and are subject to the availability of funds. The United States Department of State and the Fulbright Commission in the host country reserve the right to alter, without notice, participating countries, number of awards and allowances.

Country/Area Overview

Summary

Up to seven All Discipline grants in any area of the humanities, arts, social sciences or pure and applied sciences (STEM) to collaborate with colleagues at Greek universities, museums and other cultural organizations and research centers. One Greece-Spain Joint Teaching/Research Award is also offered. The final number may change according to demand and funding.

Overview

The Core Fulbright Scholar Program is an important component of the Fulbright Foundation's mission to bring outstanding U.S. scholars from a wide variety of disciplines to Greek institutions of higher learning and state or private organizations in order to promote cultural and educational ties between the two countries through scholarly interaction and collaboration.

Grants are for individuals with a Ph.D. or a terminal degree and three to 10 years or more of appropriate professional experience. Grants are intended for three months for the fall term (October – December) and three to four months for the spring term (February – June) of the academic year.
