Award Activity

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a wide range of disciplines. Assist with thesis advising, graduate seminars and conferences. Conduct research in area of specialization. Grantees may likely teach two classes, advise graduate students and devote 40 percent of their time to research. It is also advised that grantees participate in additional activities to enrich their time in Senegal.

Scholars selected for this award will be required to:
  • Advise and/or mentor students
  • Conduct a research project of the applicant’s choosing
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses designated by the host institution
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses of the applicant’s choosing

Areas of Interest

The award is open in any discipline taught at the host institution, including all natural and earth sciences, computer science, economics, civil or mechanical engineering, environmental sciences, foreign languages, geography, humanities, law, linguistics, mathematics, medicine, philosophy, physics and sociology. Applications are encouraged in American literature, literary theory and contemporary U.S. history.

Teaching

Teaching includes classroom teaching, as well as giving guest lectures, workshops, and seminars, and engaging in other related activities. Classroom teaching is typically at the undergraduate and graduate level, and courses may be designed by the scholar or prescribed by the host institution and may be taught or co-taught by the scholar. The teaching load varies by award, as well as the host institution. Scholars may also consult on building research capacity, advise graduate students, and assist with thesis advising.
