Grant Activity

An American scholar and a Turkish scholar will collaborate on designing a single joint research project. The American scholar will carry out grant activity in Turkey in collaboration with the Turkish colleague, and the Turkish scholar will carry out grant activity in the United States in collaboration with the American colleague. The grant activity will take place at each scholar's university and the amount of time each scholar will spend in the host country will depend on the needs of the project and must be specified in the proposal. 

The Turkish scholar must submit an application to the Turkish Fulbright Commission's Visiting Scholar Program and should follow the application deadline. The American scholar must include a copy of the Turkish scholar's curriculum vitae/resume with his/her own application to the Fulbright Scholar Program. This should be submitted as an addendum to the project statement.

In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary research or teaching activities‎.

4.5 to 9 months
Grant Dates

One-semester grants must begin in September 2021 or February 2022; two-semester grants must begin in September 2021.

Locations

Grantees can conduct their research projects at public or foundation universities, research centers, organizations or at any other relevant institutions. Their institutional affiliations will be determined by the Turkish Fulbright Commission.

While this award is open to any project in the disciplines listed above, there is interest in scholars who are in these particular specialty areas.

Applications are sought in all appropriate disciplines and their relevant sub-fields, but applications in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences will be given preferences. 

Special Features

The Turkish Fulbright Commission provides help and guidance to the grantees in finding housing. Grantees arrange their own housing and can always contact the American Programs Officer at the Turkish Fulbright Commission for advice. 

If housing is not provided by the host institution, grantee will receive an allowance of up to $560/month. However, grantees based in İstanbul will receive an allowance of up to $585/month. 

Please note that the actual amount will vary according to the grantee’s rental agreement.
