Award Activity

The award holder will be expected to teach one regular course for undergraduate/graduate students as well as a more specialized seminar for Ph.D. students in one of the humanities and social sciences academic units at the Faculty of English, Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU). The Distinguished Scholar will be expected to engage in the research/scholarly activities at the faculty, e.g., give talks, run workshops, be available to meet with the researchers for consultation and mentoring.

Scholars selected for this award will be required to:
  • Advise and/or mentor students
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses of the applicant’s choosing
Award Length
Awards are offered for either 4, 5 or 9 months - that is, for a semester or an academic year.
Award Dates

Since the academic year in Poland starts in October, grants cannot start prior to that date. One-semester grants must begin either in October 2022 or February 2023; two-semester grants must begin in October 2022.

October 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023 or October 1, 2022 - January 31, 2023 or February 1, 2023 - June 30, 2023.

Teaching includes classroom teaching, as well as giving guest lectures, workshops, and seminars, and engaging in other related activities. Classroom teaching is typically at the undergraduate and graduate level, and courses may be designed by the scholar or prescribed by the host institution and may be taught or co-taught by the scholar. The teaching load varies by award, as well as the host institution. Scholars may also consult on building research capacity, advise graduate students, and assist with thesis advising.
