The Scholars will mainly be based at the School of Business at Letterkenny Institute of Technology. The School of Business is positioned as an externally facing highly responsive higher education School/Faculty which is an outstanding partner to the world of work and industry, coupled with a regionally engaged and nationally significant orientation. The School of Business has a diverse mix of programs across three departments, namely: Business Studies, Law & Humanities, and Design & Creative Media, with over 100 staff between teaching, administration and technical and 700 students

The aim of the School is to continue its ambition and development as a center of excellence and specialization in undergraduate and postgraduate studies with a focus on practice, and to provide leadership and contribute in partnership to a learning and innovation ecosystem that seeks to develop human capital in organisations and communities in our region.

In particular, areas of excellence the School will continue to capitalise on developing our strengths and reputation beyond the region, nationally and internationally, such as; situated learning in terms of Work Based Learning and Action learning; and postgraduate studies such as Executive & Professional Education.

While the School has always had a clear focus on teaching, learning and programmes, the focus in recent years has been upon making sense of the research agenda. The research agenda is of increasing importance due to the number of staff undertaking doctoral Studies, the pursuit of Technological University criteria and the need for increased public impact. The Institute also has a 40,000sqf incubation centre. Expectations for the Scholar(s) include:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Class sizes vary from 20 to 100 students mainly in a lecture format. Materials/content provided by the lecturer but will have full access to our printing facilities (free) should materials be provided in paper form.
  • Training/mentoring will also be provided to academic staff (approximately 80), in a seminar/workshop format. Assistance with curriculum development is also expected.
  • Training/mentoring to campus companies is also required.
  • Guidance in developing the Schools research agenda. The Schools research is based in the DICE Centre – namely: Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities‎.
