Grant Activity

The scholar will be introduced individually to the researchers of CCMAR during the first week of the stay and will broadly introduce their research during a seminar open to all students of the University of Algarve within a fortnight after arrival.

The scholar is expected to use the potential of CCMAR (environment, location, facilities, human resources) to develop an original interdisciplinary research project with one/several researchers of CCMAR, aiming for concrete outputs (e.g. scientific article, policy recommendation). The project can be based on existing data or on newly produced data and could be prepared before the stay.

In addition, the scholar will teach a course in her/his discipline at the University of Algarve in the Master programs in Marine Biology, Marine and Coastal Systems, and Aquaculture and Fisheries and/or in the doctoral programs Marine Ecosystem Health and Conservation - Erasmus Mundus and Marine, Earth and Environmental Science for an equivalent of 48 hours contact time. These programs will offer possibility for the scholar to engage into supervision and mentoring of students of the University of Algarve.

In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities‎.
