Award Activity

The Fundacao Joaquim Nabuco (FUNDAJ) will be the host institution for a scholar interested in conducting research in Public Policy and collaborating with the foundation through its research projects, debates, and interdisciplinary discussions. There may be opportunities for teaching activities, but they should not exceed three hours per week.

The Fundacao Joaquim Nabuco (FUNDAJ) in Recife

FUNDAJ is a public organization in Recife founded in 1949 as Brazilian sociologist Gilberto Freyre's brainchild. It aims to preserve Brazilian abolitionist Joaquim Nabuco's cultural and historical legacy, emphasizing the Northern and Northeastern Brazilian regions.

Flex Description

Flex awards allow the stay to be split into two visits of two months each between July 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023. There must be a period of at least two months between the two in-country stays.

FUNDAJ welcomes research projects on any topic as long as it is related to any of the disciplines listed above.

Special Features

FUNDAJ offers an allowance in Reais to complement the Fulbright stipend. This allowance is intended to cover all local living and transportation expenses for the award period. FUNDAJ will help the scholar find housing in Recife.

Activity Type

Research includes activities involving scientific research, qualitative research, quantitative research, and practice-based research, including artistic research. Research can take place in locations such as the laboratory, the field, the archives, or an artist residency. It can be experimental, clinical, or applied. It can include examining policies, systems, theories, methods, interactions, and works of art and music, with the objective to evaluate or develop new knowledge or works. Quantifiable (tangible) outcomes can include publications (books, journal articles, scripts, etc.), conference presentations, artistic and musical compositions, exhibitions, performances, films, and patents.
