The Fulbright-Haaga-Helia Scholar Award enables U.S. scholars to undertake teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level and take part in research, development and innovation (RDI) activities at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. The grant cannot be used for advancing one's own academic research.

The scholar will be a member of the teacher team in the respective education unit at Haaga-Helia. At Haaga-Helia, team teaching model is applied, and the scholar works closely with other lecturers. Scholar may be responsible for teaching a full study course or parts of courses depending on the work plan agreed. Even if the main role of the scholar is teaching, at Haaga-Helia, all lecturers are expected to take part in the RDI activities. Taking part in RDI activities can mean, for example, writing a publication together with Haaga-Helia faculty or contributing to a RDI project that is running or planning a RDI project in cooperation with Haaga-Helia faculty.   

Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) train professionals with emphasis on labor market needs and they conduct applied research and development which supports teaching and learning and promotes regional development in particular. The education in UAS emphasizes co-operation with the business, industry and service sectors.

Haaga-Helia has excellent facilities for teaching, learning and RDI. Haaga-Helia SalesLab offers a completely new type of environment for improving and developing sales, customer engagements and interaction situations. The Fulbright-Haaga-Helia Scholar Award is jointly funded by the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and the Fulbright Finland Foundation (the Finnish Fulbright commission).

One-semester grants may begin in August/September 2021 or January 2022; two-semester grants must begin in August/September 2021.

Locations

Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences has a staff (staff and faculty) of 630 professionals and a student population of 11 000 undergraduates and graduates. It hosts over thousand international students. Haaga-Helia offers altogether 22 Bachelor programs and 8 Master programs. Eight Bachelor programs and 3 Master programs are offered in English. Haaga-Helia has campuses in Helsinki, Porvoo and Vierumäki.

Through education, research and development, Haaga-Helia prepares professionals for business and public sector. In education, closeness to practice is emphasized, and all activities reflect to realities of the marketplace. Haaga-Helia operates in close cooperation with industry, and has an extensive network of business partners. Haaga-Helia promotes internationalization, and in terms of teacher and student mobility, Haaga-Helia is the most international university of applied sciences in Finland. Haaga-Helia graduates go on to successful careers in broad range of organizations.

Helsinki, the capital and largest city of Finland, is a modern city with 600,000 residents. The Helsinki Metropolitan Area has a population of 1,2 million, and is the most developed region in Finland and the center of business life, education and culture.
