Award Details
Grant Activity

Conduct research in any subject (or a combination of multiple subjects) at Loughborough University. Scholars may also undertake teaching/lecturing in addition to pursuing their own research, if interested.

We warmly welcome applications for the Fulbright Loughborough University Award, and have previously successfully hosted Fulbright Scholars. All Loughborough University Fulbright Scholars will become Fellows of our Institute of Advanced Studies, ensuring that they will have maximum visibility and be fully integrated into our vibrant research communities across our campuses. We are particularly keen to attract scholars working within one of our five research ‘Beacons’ or four interdisciplinary Global Research Challenge areas, which are institution-wide programmes built on a foundation of research excellence across our individual disciplines. We are keen for our Scholars to be embedded within our research communities and to spend time based at our newly established Institute of Advanced Studies.

The Beacon Programme identifies the University’s “classic” research strengths. The Beacon areas are enduring and demonstrably world-class across a broad range of coherent topics:

1. Built environment

2. Communication and culture

3. High value manufacturing

4. Sport and exercise

5. Transport technologies

The Global Challenges Programme brings expertise together across disciplines to create multi-disciplinary solutions to the biggest societal challenges of the day:

1. Changing Environments and Infrastructure

2. Energy

3. Health and Wellbeing

4. Secure and Resilient Societies

Scholars wishing to undertake teaching/research grants should determine percentage of the grant dedicated to each activity with the host institution.

In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities‎.
