Award Details
Award Activity

The award will be offered to a U.S. scholar who will undertake research using the National Library of Scotland’s (NLS) collections for a period of six months. The research project must be based primarily around the Library’s unique or rare collections, and be intended for publication. The scholar will also contribute to the National Library of Scotland's outreach and public lecture programs. This may involve making a web film or developing a webpage about a certain aspect of the Library's collection in collaboration with National Library of Scotland colleagues.

The National Library of Scotland is a reference library with world-class collections. It is also Scotland's largest library and one of the major research libraries in Europe. Its collections range from rare historical documents to online journals, covering every subject. The Library's key focus is Scotland's knowledge, history, and culture. The library is one of Europe's major research libraries, with around 24 million items in its collections. It is Scotland's legal deposit library for UK publications and as a reference library its items can only be accessed by visiting the library itself.

In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, advise, and engage with the host community, in addition to their primary research or teaching activities‎.
