Fulbright Israel welcomes applications from innovative U.S. postdoctoral scholars who seek to conduct researc at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Grants are open to researchers in all academic disciplines and support research programs in Israel for up to 20 months (two academic years).

Each candidate is responsible for the arrangement of the institutional affiliations independently, including development of the research program for the proposed visit. Based on Fulbright Israel policy, selected Fulbright postdoctoral fellows must hold official postdoctoral fellow status at their host institutions in Israel, including access to campus resources.

Scholars selected for this award will be required to:
  • Conduct a professional and/or artistic project
  • Conduct a research project designated by the host institution
  • Conduct a research project of the applicant’s choosing
Award Length
Up to two academic years, minimum of one academic year.
Award Dates

Grants may begin any time during the period of August 2022 to April 2023, as agreed upon with host institution.

Research activity will take place at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Established in 1918 and opened in 1925, The Hebrew University is Israel’s premier university, as well as its leading research institution. The Hebrew University is ranked internationally among the 100 leading universities in the world and first among Israeli universities.

Special Features

During their grant period, Fulbright U.S. Scholars in Israel may apply for a short-term regional travel grant (five to 14 days) for participation in a variety of activities including faculty and student lectures, graduate or faculty seminars, curriculum development, public lectures, panel presentations, needs assessment, conferences, or some combination thereof.

Research includes activities involving scientific research, qualitative research, quantitative research, and practice-based research, including artistic research. Research can take place in locations such as the laboratory, the field, the archives, or an artist residency. It can be experimental, clinical, or applied. It can include examining policies, systems, theories, methods, interactions, and works of art and music, with the objective to evaluate or develop new knowledge or works. Quantifiable (tangible) outcomes can include publications (books, journal articles, scripts, etc.), conference presentations, artistic and musical compositions, exhibitions, performances, films, and patents.
