Award Activity

One American scholar will be selected as Fulbright-Schuman Chair at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. During the 2022- 2023 academic year, the Chair will be located at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. This Chair award rotates venue and depending on the year, it may be hosted by College of Bruges in Belgium in future years.

The scholar selected for this professorship is expected to conduct his/her own research program, teach courses for the Institute as agreed with the hosting Department, organize one presentation about Fulbright-Schuman scholarships for current students, co-supervise postgraduate students, and contribute to the academic life of the Institute through the organization of other activities, such as giving special lectures for the college community, organizing conferences (budgetary considerations permitting), and developing extracurricular activities for students related to his/her academic specialization.

Scholars selected for this award will be required to:
  • Conduct a research project of the applicant’s choosing
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses of the applicant’s choosing

Fall 2022 semester, Spring 2023 semester or one academic year starting in September 2022.

The Fulbright Commission in Belgium pays for the participation and transportation costs for the grantee to participate and present one lecture at its annual EU/NATO seminar held in Brussels, Belgium and Luxembourg each spring.
