Grant Activity

The Fulbright- Tampere University grantee will conduct research and lecture at any of the seven faculties of the University:

  1. Faculty of Technology and Communication Sciences
  2. Faculty of Management and Business
  3. Faculty of Education and Culture
  4. Faculty of Medicine and Health Technologies
  5. Faculty of Built Environment
  6. Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences
  7. Faculty of Social Sciences

The grant can be awarded for any field represented at Tampere University.

The Fulbright-Tampere University Scholar Award is jointly funded by the Tampere University and the Fulbright Finland Foundation (the Finnish Fulbright Commission).

Grant Dates

The grant is offered for a period of 3-10 months, starting in either September 2021 or January 2022, or must be separately agreed upon with the host institution and the Fulbright Finland Foundation. The academic year runs from September through mid-May. No teaching is generally offered during June to August.

Tampere University is located on three campuses: Central Campus, Hervanta Campus and Kauppi Campus. In January 2019, the University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology merged to a new foundation-based university called Tampere University. Combining the strengths of the two universities created a higher education community that is more diverse, international and influential. Tampere University’s strength lies in its multidisciplinarity, and especially in its research and teaching on technology, society and health. The University is the largest educator in the fields of social and administrative sciences in Finland.

Tampere University offers 35 international master’s programs and an international Tampere Summer School with more than 30 inspiring courses covering a range of academic fields and up-to-date topics. The University cooperates with almost 500 partner universities internationally, and it draws its students and staff from 80 countries.

The University hosts national Centers of Excellence in research on Mitochondria, Metabolism and Disease, History of Experiences, Body-on-Chip Research and Game Culture Studies.

The Academy of Finland Flagship Programme promotes excellent research and versatile impact arising therefrom. Tampere University is the coordinator of the flagship on Photonics Research and Innovation (PREIN).

Tampere University continuously develops its research infrastructure. The Academy of Finland has selected four new competence clusters to be funded under its Flagship Programme. One of the newly selected flagships is Photonics Research and Innovation, which is coordinated by Tampere University
