Award Activity

Conduct research in any area of interest, preferably in collaboration with Hungarian scholars at an institution within the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), Eötvös Loránd Research Network (ELKH).

The scholar may also take part in other activities within the scholar community of MTA, ELKH such as faculty training and curriculum development, meeting with Fulbright alumni, doing community outreach, engaging with the local English-speaking community, being available to local media and pursuing their own interests.

The Scholar may also have the opportunity to give guest lectures at Hungarian universities if invited.

Scholars selected for this award will be required to:
  • Conduct a research project of the applicant’s choosing

Award Dates

Research must be completed between August 2022 and July 2023; Flex applicants may complete their grants between July 2022 and August 2024.

Locations

The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) is Hungary’s most prestigious scientific organization. Since 2019, former research centers of MTA are administered separately as the Eötvös Loránd Research Network (ELKH). Their highest standards of quality and scientific excellence were also acknowledged by the Academy with the title "MTA Centre of Excellence”. MTA and ELKH support collaborative research with international scholars and MTA co-funds cooperation with Fulbright U.S. scholars.

The ELKH research network consists of ten research centers, five research institutes, and numerous research teams:

Flex grants of two months each segment over two consecutive years are possible with prior arrangement with host institution. Final approval of Flex grants will be contingent upon available funding.

The award is open to all disciplines and affiliations are dependent on specializations.

For those interested In the MTA ELKH Research Centre for Natural Sciences, researchers participate in the most up-to-date, cutting-edge international research topics. The Centre welcomes researchers in all areas, but especially in the following fields: Oncology, Functional and Bioactive Molecules & Nanostructures, Bioinformatics, Big Data & Artificial Intelligence (AI), Circular Economy, and Translational Biomedicine.

Quantifiable (tangible) outcomes can include publications (books, journal articles, scripts, etc.), conference presentations, artistic and musical compositions, exhibitions, performances, films, and patents.
