Grant Activity

Reacting to economic upheaval: a comparative analysis of Greece, Iceland and the U.S. in the post-2008 era.

The crash of 2008 had wide ranging effects on Greece, Iceland and the U.S., which each faced their own challenges based on different political, economic and societal realities. Each country had its own unique responses to the crisis, but there are lessons to be learned from comparing policy responses – legal, economic and/or societal.

The grantee will do comparative research based on his or her area of expertise and also look forward at the lessons to be learned, not only by these three countries, but with reference to the wider international community in terms of future policymaking. Grantees may build on existing research that has already been done in the aftermath of the 2008 crash, but should undertake original research that adds to the current academic debate in a meaningful way. Publication and a wide dissemination of results is expected as a result of the grant.

In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities‎.
