Please note that, although much of the online information on the host institution website is in Spanish, most faculty at the International Studies Department speak English, and the scholar will only be expected to teach in English. Detailed information about his/her tasks will be provided to candidates in a timely manner and in English after being selected.

A) Teaching at the undergraduate level:

Teaching undergraduate-level courses for third-year students earning their Bachelor’s degree in International Studies.

The visiting professor will teach a maximum of two courses, with a maximum total of 40 students in each. Each course consists of 42-45 teaching hours in the classroom, divided up between lectures and discussion.

He/she is expected to teach two courses of the Bachelor's degree program in International Studies:

  • The third-year undergraduate course "Issues in International Politics Today" (6 ECTS, 60 hours of lectures and seminars); and
  • The fourth year optional course "The United States of America as a Global Power" (6 ECTS, 45 hours of lectures and seminars or only seminars).

B) Research:

The Scholar will be invited to present his/her research in seminars and to attend research seminars led by UAM’s professors. There will be ample opportunities for research collaboration.

Research on European, Latin American and Spanish politics (including USA-EU, USA-Latin America and USA-Spain relations), and globalization and its impact on international and national politics, as well as on other connected topics, both from a political-scientific and from a historical perspective, will find an adequate environment at the UAM.

In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities‎.

While this award is open to any project in the disciplines listed above, there is interest in scholars who are in these particular specialty areas.

The Scholar´s expertise should preferably be in International Relations and/or Political Science or Political Thought, although Modern and Contemporary History would also be encouraged.

The UAM sponsors this award and, in addition to financial benefits, offers housing advice and, if needed, assistance to find a school for dependent children. A contact will be available to help the scholar adapt to the university.
