Award Activity

Teaching at the undergraduate level (up to 60% of grant activity):

Teaching undergraduate-level courses for third-year and fourth year students earning their Bachelor’s degree in International Studies.

The visiting professor will teach a maximum of two courses. Each course consists of 42-45 teaching hours in the classroom, divided up between lectures and discussion.

He/she is expected to teach two courses of the Bachelor's degree program in International Studies:

  • The third-year undergraduate course "Issues in International Politics Today" (6 ECTS, 60 hours of lectures and seminars); and
  • The fourth year optional course "The United States of America as a Global Power" (6 ECTS, 45 hours of lectures and seminars or only seminars).

Research (up to 40% of grant activity):

The Scholar will be invited to present his/her research in seminars and to attend research seminars led by UAM’s professors. There will be ample opportunities for research collaboration.

Research on European, Latin American and Spanish politics (including US-EU, US-Latin America and US-Spain relations), and globalization and its impact on international and national politics, as well as on other connected topics, both from a political-scientific and from a historical perspective, will find an adequate environment at the UAM.

Please note that, although much of the online information on the host institution website is in Spanish, most faculty at the International Studies Department speak English, and the scholar will only be expected to teach in English. Detailed information about his/her tasks will be provided to candidates in a timely manner and in English, after being selected.

Scholars selected for this award can choose to:
  • Advise and/or mentor students
  • Conduct a research project of the applicant’s choosing
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses designated by the host institution

The Scholar´s expertise should preferably be in International Relations and/or Political Science or Political Thought, although Modern and Contemporary History would also be encouraged.
