Fulbright Canada Research Chairs are pre-arranged affiliations to host exceptional scholars who conduct research important to that university. Partner universities are excited to welcome Fulbright Canada Research Chairs into campus life and encourage them to engage with students and faculty, and the broader community. You can conduct your own research, work collaboratively with new colleagues, guest lecture at university courses, mentor students, lecture in public venues, network, and promote your research while representing the Fulbright program, and your home and host institutions. For specific information about this opportunity, visit the  Fulbright Canada webpage for Research Chairs in Policy, Law, and Governance.

Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Global Governance, Balsillie School of International Affairs
Specializations: In one or more of the core research areas of the School: conflict and security; environment and resources; global political economy; migration, mobilities and social policies; multilateral institutions; and science and health policies.

Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Digitization and Democracy, McMaster University
Specializations: Online disinformation; online voting; digital activism; e-government; platform capitalism; digitization and shifting conceptions of public and private; the impacts of digitization political narratives and effects; online hate; democracies and cyberwar.

Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Governance and Public Administration, University of Ottawa
Specializations: Contemporary governance, public policy, public management and public administration.

Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Human Rights and Social Justice, University of Ottawa

Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Science and Society, University of Ottawa
Specializations: Science, technology and society; science and innovation policy; science/policy interface; energy/energy technology policy; and technology governance.

Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Public Management or Public Policy, University of Saskatchewan
Specializations: Public health and social policy, innovation policy, resource and environmental policy, and public sector management.

Fulbright Canada Research Chair in International Studies, Université Laval
Specializations: Multidisciplinary methodology, international political economy, international law, security and conflict studies, geopolitics, international migration, international development, and international business and finance.

Scholars selected for this award can choose to:
  • Advise and/or mentor students
  • Assist in faculty, curriculum, and/or program development
  • Conduct a professional and/or artistic project
  • Conduct a research project designated by the host institution
  • Conduct a research project of the applicant’s choosing
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses designated by the host institution
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses of the applicant’s choosing

One semester
Award Dates

Grants must begin in either September 2022 or January 2023.
Awards should fall within the academic year and are not available for the summer months only.

Research includes activities involving scientific research, qualitative research, quantitative research, and practice-based research, including artistic research. Research can take place in locations such as the laboratory, the field, the archives, or an artist residency. It can be experimental, clinical, or applied. It can include examining policies, systems, theories, methods, interactions, and works of art and music, with the objective to evaluate or develop new knowledge or works. Quantifiable (tangible) outcomes can include publications (books, journal articles, scripts, etc.), conference presentations, artistic and musical compositions, exhibitions, performances, films, and patents.
