Award Activity

This grant provides scholars with the opportunity to conduct research and teach at the Universidad de la Laguna. Candidates are expected to dedicate approximately 50% of their time to research and 50% of their time to teaching.

Research:

Priority will be given to experts in the field of North American history, specifically the relationship between the Canary Islands and the Caribbean. Projects which contribute to research already being carried out by ULL research groups are encouraged.

The Scholar will be invited to present his/her research in seminars and to attend research seminars led by ULL’s professors. There will be ample opportunities for research collaboration.

Teaching at the undergraduate level:

The visiting professor will teach a maximum of two courses. Each course consists of 42-45 teaching hours in the classroom, divided between lectures and discussion. Depending on the visiting professor’s expertise, there is also the possibility of teaching  complete courses or co-teaching parts of one or more courses. Specific teaching assignments will be established once the applicant proposes what he/she would like to teach. All courses will be taught in English.

Scholars selected for this award will be required to:
  • Conduct a research project designated by the host institution
  • Conduct a research project of the applicant’s choosing
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses designated by the host institution
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses of the applicant’s choosing
