Grant Activity

Teach courses at the undergraduate or graduate levels in the Grantee’s areas of specialization. Grantees may be requested to supervise master's theses, to conduct training programs for senior English students, junior level English teachers and faculty as well as workshops to build assessment capacity and/or research capacity of teacher trainees. The host institutions may request assistance from the Grantees in the development of programs and curricula, resource material development, testing and evaluation, and program design and implementation.

 

In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities‎.

Grants must start in September 2020 and end in July 2021.

Locations

Grantees can teach at public or foundation universities having MA TEFL or English Language Teaching (ELT) departments; their final institutional affiliations will be confirmed by the Turkish Fulbright Commission.

While this award is open to any project in the disciplines listed above, there is interest in scholars who are in these particular specialty areas.

Specializations will vary, but in general, candidates with one or more following fields will be preferred:

Teaching English as a Foreign Language:
• English teaching pedagogies and techniques
• TEFL curriculum development and design
• English for special purposes or English for academic purposes course design
• Computer-assisted language learning or other technology-enhanced teaching and learning techniques
• Teaching methods of English writing, listening/speaking, or reading
• Methods of assessment and evaluation of English language learners
• Structure of English
• History of English
• Qualitative or quantitative research methods
• American, British or World English literature in the ESL classroom

Applied Linguistics:
• Second language acquisition
• Language analysis (theoretical and/or practical grammar, phonology, morphology, syntax, lexis)
• Sociolinguistics
• Psycholinguistics
• Discourse and/or conversation analysis

Other:

  • MA TEFL
  • English Language Teaching
  • Translation studies
  • Intercultural or cross-cultural communication
  • Bilingualism

 

Special Features

The Turkish Fulbright Commission provides help and guidance to the grantees in finding housing. Grantees arrange their own housing and can always contact the American Programs Officer at the Turkish Fulbright Commission for advice. 

If housing is not provided by the host institution, grantee will receive an allowance of up to $560/month. However, grantees based in İstanbul will receive an allowance of up to $585/month. 

Please note that the actual amount will vary according to the grantee’s rental agreement.
